Design and technology sectors pursue greater synergies

What developments can we expect to see as designers and engineers join forces on innovation? This autumn, the Finnish Association of Designers Ornamo sets out to answer that question by bringing together recent Finnish examples of synergistic initiatives involving a range of emerging specialties, including artificial intelligence, food production, water technology, transport and wellbeing.

The line up at our Design ❤ Technology seminar in October will feature service design specialists Hellon, who are actively embracing AI as part of their development process. ŌURA Ring will also be on hand to share their experiences of combining technology and jewellery design. Ōura’s new wellness ring tracks and analyses the wearer’s rest, sleep quality and daily activity levels.

Also sharing their story will be Showerloop, a Finnish company that has developed a method for filtering and purifying shower water to create drinking water. This innovative new solution is suitable for installation in any bathroom.

These exciting new products are also currently being showcased at Ornamo and the Design Museum’s joint Enter and Encounter exhibition. The exhibition celebrates the centenary of Finland’s independence by turning its focus on to the future to explore how design can challenge the present and shape the future. The exhibition will run until 22 October.
