The awards ceremony for the 2018 German Design Award, held on 9 February 2018, drew an audience of 1,300 experts from the international design community.
German Design Award reported a record number of entries this year: The number of participants in the Product and Communications Design category exceeded 5,000 this year. Products and projects were submitted from 56 countries, with international submissions increasing to 48% of all entries.
Thirty-three European countries participated in the competition. Apart from the German-speaking countries, Gold prizes were awarded to Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark and the United Kingdom.
The international jury, consisting of representatives from the fields of economy, science and design, worked hard to produce a selection of especially outstanding designs. In the competition’s 49 categories, a total of 45 gold prizes were awarded.

The German Design Award is the premium international award of the German Design Council. Its aim is to discover, showcase and reward unique trends in product and communication design across all sectors and disciplines.
In addition to the honorary ‘Personality’ award, the German Design Awards also include ‘Newcomer’ awards endowed with cash prizes.
