Perspectives at Milan Design Week
Design Flanders participated in Milan Design Week, one of the key events in the global design calendar, for many years, but never as successfully as in 2012. As members will know, a good presentation in an attractive location can make a designer’s career.
In previous years, designers from the three Belgian regions were represented separately on a map of the event, and this worked quite well. In 2011 and 2012, though, the regions joined forces to create a joint presentation. To raise the profile even more, this year’s Belgium is Design was shown in the Triennale de Milano – one of the two main locations for Milan Design Week.
Kris Peeters , Minister-President of Flanders , visited Belgium is Design – Perspectives and attended a dinner on Monday 16 April with forty five journalists, designers and design companies present. On Tuesday 17 April he opened the exhibition and visited some Flemish design companies. One of the main aims of his visit was to support Flemish entrepreneurship and to draw attention to Flemish design, and due to the excellent press coverage, many of the participating designers and companies have received more press interest.
The organisers were Design Flanders, Wallonie-Bruxelles Design Mode and the Brussels Centre of Fashion and Design. Belgium is Design is also supported by the Flemish, Walloon and Brussels export promoting organizations: Flanders Investment & Trade, AWEX and Brussels Invest & Export.
