Vesna Brekalo of DOS, Slovenia and member of BEDA has been appointed a vice president of the Icograda Executive Board.

Delegates to the Icograda General Assembly in Taipei elected an historic Executive Board to lead the Council in its 50 anniversary term. Representing more than 200 organisations in 67 countries globally, the 10 person board will be led by Leimei Julia Chiu (Japan), who becomes Icograda’s first female President. For the first time in Icograda’s almost 50 year history, the board includes a majority of women members.

IF_TallinnFestival2011

Tallinn hosts the sixth innovation festival as part of its European Capital of Culture 2011 programme and will hold more than 45 events which mainly take place in the Rotermann quarter, as well as several large museums, galleries and urban spaces. One of the centres of the festival is the Estonian Design House located in Kalasadam where visitors can experience the latest Estonian design works. The Design Festival Design Night event will also run as part of the IF Festival and feature a number of exhibitions showcasing European design works.

The Innovation Festivals are a celebration of innovation and creativity that have been organized in six European cities within the past 2 years – Barcelona, Kortrijk, Milano, Lisboa, Vilnius and Tallinn – mobilizing their citizens, youth, businesses, researchers and other regional players to broaden their minds and be part of multiple events.

European Design Leadership Board chosen

In line with the commitment taken in the Innovation Union, the European Commission launches in 2011 the European Design Innovation Initiative (EDII) to exploit the full potential of design for innovation.

The goal of the initiative is to:
- raise the awareness of design as a driver of innovation in Europe.
- enhance its role as a key discipline to bring ideas to market transforming them into user-friendly and apealing products, processes or services by enterprises and public services in the EU.

EDII Secretariat is based in Aalto University, Helsinki, Finland.
