Through its positioning papers, BEDA offers guidance to members in addressing changing demands on individual design practitioners, design firms and the design industry at large. Issues might include legislation and policy issues, competences and codes of professional conduct, business modelling and other management issues, and the need for continuous professional development.

BEDA’s Professional Working Group has now produced a paper stating its vision on the design profession; the accompanying dossier has been researched and written by design management professional Steinar Valade-Amland of Three Point Zero.

The BEDA Professional Design Practice Dossier attempts to draw the most precise picture of current issues relating to professional design practice in Europe and globally.

BEDA BookJacketBEDA Positioning Paper on Public Procurement – spread the word
During the meeting held in Barcelona in March 2013, BEDA’s General Assembly voted and accepted the Professional Working Group’s Proposal for a BEDA Positioning Paper on Public Procurement. To achieve maximum exposure and impact it was agreed by the GA that in addition to the paper, BEDA would draw up an Action Plan with recommendations on how to proceed with the Positioning Paper at national levels.

Design Wales / PDR, lead partner of the SEE Platform has published a report called the Design Policy Monitor that collates statistics on design performance in a number of EU countries.

The lack of statistical data on design in Europe is frequently cited as a barrier to design forming part of innovation policy.

SEEPlatformPublicationsThe SEE Platform is a network of 11 European partners engaging with national and regional governments to integrate design into innovation policies and innovation programmes.

Through new research, workshops for policy-makers and programme managers, case studies, policy recommendations and the Design Policy Monitor, SEE has built a bank of evidence to support public authorities in integrating design into their mainstream practice.
